the trip

We went to Iowa 2 weeks ago to spend time with my grandma when she turned 80. I was so worried about my morning sickness combined with the motion sickness I get when traveling that I loaded up on all kinds of medication before stepping foot into the airport. So, I didn't notice when the landing turned from slightly bumpy to stomach turning. Kira's little tummy sure did, though. I had unfortunately fed her a whole carton of yogurt as we took off, so there was plenty on her tummy to come back up. When the screaming started, I assumed it was the air pressure on her little ears, as mine were popping. Then, she got frantic, squirming and making the milk sign. Since she had just had some juice, I knew she wasn't thirsty. I guess her tummy was hurting and she interpreted it as hunger? And then it happened. And wouldn't you know, I had no change of clothes, no way to clean the car seat, and only 20 minutes between flights. I flipped her shirt inside out until we boarded the next plane and then stripped her down, wrapping her in a flight blanket. The joys.
The rest of the trip was much less eventfull. Kira loved running around grandma's house, playing with her fax machine "phone" and spent hours playing with the ring stacker my uncle brought her. She also found Peyton, her new cousin, very interesting.
She increased her vocabulary ont he trip, learning to say "go" "bye" and "ga gone" (for all gone). She let us know when she was done with us by banging on the door to the upstairs or the pato and saying "go bye, go bye" and running around to everyone in the room to tell them bye. Even if we had no intention of leaving any time soon.
The only sad moments were when she would realize daddy wasn't there and would bang on all the closed doors crying for "daddy, daddy." She would calm down with a few snuggles and one of her favorite videos, but it was still a sad site to watch.
