Supermom?

Kira has been sick. Not just a little cough, but lay down in daddy's lap and not move all day sick. Of course, it was harder on momma than on anyone else, since I had to be at work while she was needing TLC. But, daddy has his own special version of medicine. Cookies, "jus" (Kira's word for juice), and lots of baby einstein videos! I'm sure she liked that better than motrin and vicks vaporub anyway.
Saturday night, she was especially lethargic and her fever spiked above 102. She layed her head down on my shoulder when I got home and sobbed. My heart broke, knowing that I was going to have to go to work in the morning again unless she was sick enough to go to the doctor. Overnight, her fever broke and her breathing evened out. I gave Jeremy specific instructions to call when they got up and had had breakfast to let me know how she was feeling.
At 10:30, about an hour past her normal wake up time, I began to panic. I called the house...knowing that I had turned down the ringer and answering machine before I left so it would not disturb Kira is she was down for a nap. No answer. I tried again. And again. And AGAIN! No answer by 12:30 when I finally left a panic message to CALL ME RIGHT NOW!
Thankfully, I work at a brand new facility and there was only one patient. I did what any other panic stricken mom would do. Gave report on the one patient and jumped in the car to head home and check on the situation.
What did I expect to find? I have no idea. It's not like they would have GONE anywhere. And if they house had caught on fire or had some other disaster, surely one of my many neighbors would have called me! Did I think that Kira and Jeremy had both been hurt in their sleep? Who knows, but I had it in my head that SOMETHING was wrong.
When I burst through the door Supermom style, Jeremy nearly dropped his breakfast on the floor! Breakfast? At nearly 1pm? Yup. Turns out Kira had slept right through until after noon. And of course, my husband, being the late night owl he is, slept with her.
Why didn't they hear my phone calls and messages? Because when I turned the ringer down, I turned it WAY down and I managed to turn the answering machine OFF!
Well, it was a nice, but stressful lunch break. I fed Kira and headed back to work, feeling slightly stupid, but relieved nonetheless.

sleepless night

Not Kira, she slept through the night last night for the first time in several months! The problem was that I am so used to waking up 3-4 times in the night with her that I tossed and turned all night long. I would wake up, surprised that Kira was still asleep, but thinking it would be "any minute" before she would be awake, I would not be able to fall back asleep again. This happened all night long until about 5am, I finally had to scooch her back over to the center of the bed (it was either that or end up on the floor!) and she woke up enough to eat a little before I had to go to work.
Hopefully this was not a one time event and she will continue to sleep better. I have discovered serveral new teeth in her mouth (including at least one molar) so now that the pain is better I hope that the sleeping will be too.
Or maybe I'll be back to sleepless nights...because of baby waking...again.

undecorating

Kira loves the Christmas tree. Not putting the decorations ON the tree, but taking them off. I try and try to hang them back up, one by one, as I find them scattered through the house. Somehow, though, they still manage to find their way back into her pudgy little hands and into various cabinets, baskets, and shelves. And the interest is never ending. It provides hours of entertainment that can't be beat by any book, video, or toy. Maybe next year more than half the tree will have ornaments on it!

Big Kid Toys

Her favorite toy of the day? The TV remote. Only it's not just for chewing anymore. Now it actually DOES something when the buttons are pushed. She is in the other room standing in front of the TV turning it on and off and on and off...you get teh picture. Sometimes the volume goes up really loud! I just hope one day she doesn't accidentally convret it to Spanish and I can't figure out how to get it back!

Fat Lip

It looks like I'm gonna have to update in reverse for a few posts...I didn't realize it had been so long since a post!

Kira fell flat on her face last night...tripped over nothing but her own feet, poor baby. She was airborn before she landed and bit through her lip when she landed! At first I thought it was a normal fall and she was just crying from being scared. But, the cry quickly turned into the "I am hurt! Fix me!" cry. Then the blood started pouring. I thought maybe she had knocked a tooth loose there was so much blood! Of course, when she finally let me look in her mouth I found all 9 teeth in their places (yes, I said NINE!) We grabbed her boo-boo bunny out of the freezer just as her lip started puffing out before our eyes. It was HUGE! And it was wierd to watch it puff out like that in a matter of a second or two. She looked so funny and sad all at the same time.
All this in spite of the fact that we are so diligent about keeping the house as trip free as possible. Just minutes before, Daddy had gone through and picked up all her toys so she wouldn't trip on them. I guess there's nothing we can do about a skinny minny with big feet! She wasn't paying attention and was looking back at us as she ran away. It reminded me a little of the dramatic "superman" escapade that my sister pulled just moments before crashing into the screen door at our house in Bartlesville with a little of the tongue biting episode from Wayside mixed in.
She woke up crying several times as she was trying to fall asleep last night (but, really, what is new there!?!) but once asleep slept most of the night and woke up looking and feeling much better.
