the best games

The latest fun game in the Kira collection: spinning around and around until she can't stand up! It's all fun and games until she tips into something with a sharp corner. I hope it never happens, but it's my job to worry.
She is such an active one! She loves to run all over the house with the end of the toilet paper as it unravels from the roll. I try to keep the door to the bathroom door shut at all times, but it doesn't seem to stay that way. Her other pasttimes are splashing in toilets and digging in trash, so you can see why this is such a fun room!
She has become quite good at feeding Brittany (our lovable shih tzu), too. She will throw her food off the high chair, wait for Brittany to gobble it down and laugh!
And the best game of all...hugs and kisses!

hi doggy milk

So many words are being added to her vocabulary! It all started with doggy, but in a few short days she not only learned more words, but also more signs!
She loves to wave and say "hi" and also waves bye (but doesn't say "bye" she just says "hi" again!). Everyone gets a hi and a wave these days!
We also noticed that she would often wave without saying hi and then get cranky right after. After some super sleuth investigating, we discovered that she was actually making the sign for milk, but forgetting to turn her hand sideways! All in cotext, I suppose...
So much easier to communicate now!

Doggy

We have been patiently waiting to hear Kira's first word. She has been babbling mama and dada for a while now and one might argue that those were her first words. But it was so hard to distinguish between babbling and an actual word...when do you decide that it is finally her first word?
So we have been playing a game for a while now. Where's the....doggy, cat, baby, dolly, block? You know, ask her again and again and when she finally looks at the right thing you jump up and down and cheer wildly like she's the next contestant on The Price Is Right? She definately knows "cat" and "brittany" (our dog), so I figured that one of those would be her first words.
This morning, we played that game again. Brittany was in the kitchen waiting for Kira to drop some food off the high chair. I said "where's Brittany? Where's the doggy?" Kira looked down at Brittany, pointed her finger at her and said "doggy." Plain as day. Doggy. Of course, I was so stunned I forgot to jump up and down and cheer for a few seconds! But, once I did, Kira was so happy with herself that she has been repeating "doggy" all day!

Golden Corral

I know this is 2 posts for one day, but I forgot to write about dinner tonight. We decided that we would try out the Golden Corral again. You wouldn't believe how much Kira ate! I bet she had a whole plate full by the time we were done. She had: fried okra (her favorite!), pears, pineapple, creamed spinach, sweet potato casserole, ham bites, turkey bites, fish flakes from the fried fish sticks, some tuna off the salad bar, carrots from the pot roast medley, some pumpkin pie, a handful of oyster crackers, and I'm sure I am leaving somthing else out! We can't believe she doesn't have a horrible tummy ache!
Of course, her daddy also ate a lot and they are both sleeping soundly rather early in the evening. Maybe we should hit the Golden Corral every night I need some time to myself!

The slide

Daddy and mommy took Kira to the park today. We wanted it to be a great experience, so we took her to the biggest park in our part of town about 10 minutes away. We soon discovered, though, that other than some wooden climbing equiptment and some swings, there was nothing else for play equiptment! So, knowing that she would have more fun somewhere else, we drove right back to a park in the neighborhood across the street from ours. A 30 minute drive total to go 5 minutes from home!
She loved the baby swings and there was also a baby slide just her size! She had a ball! And it wore her out! I can't remember the last time I put her in her crib at 7:30 at night!

update on the thrush

Yes, we have gotten rid of the thrush. After several applications of the purple stuff, oral diflucan for both Kira and myself, and acidophilus, too. Of course, I was (un)lucky enough to have an allergic reaction to the purple stuff. My skin blistered and peeled. Lucky for me, I had reasearched thrush and found an all purpose ointment that can be used to breastfeeding issues. I had to wait several days and visit several pharmacies before I could find someone to make it for me, but after just TWO applications my skin was totally healed. That APNO rocks! I will never be without it again. We are back to happily breastfeeding.
This did, however, steer her in the right direction to begin weaning. She is taking in very little milk from me during the day now and I can go a whole day at work without pumping! It does make me sad, since we worked so hard to make breastfeeding work, and it is such a wonderful time for us to share. But, she is growing up and I am glad to see her being so independant. We still share our close time togther in the evenings, but are moving toward other ways to be close during the day.

Trick or Treat

Well, I thought she would love trick or treating, but I guess that was wishful thinking. She didn't have a horrible time, but it was a lot of activity for a little one. Did I mention that we live in the busiest neighborhood for trick or treaters in the city? The one where the kids get BUSSED in to trick or treat here. It is fun to see all the kids, but it was so crowded! I thought it would be fun to carry her instead of use the stroller. An hour into it (which was only half way, mind you!) my arms were so sore! And she didn't want anyone else to hold her. She either wanted to be carried by me or wander in the street. So, I carried her as much as I could. She also would not let the paci go. She hasn't used it in public since she was a few months old! So, my little bumble bee had a paci in her mouth all night long. The bee only had one minor meltdown, she got lots of candy, and slept very well that night!
